Qu Zheng, Deputy Director of Qingdao Marine Corrosion Research Institute of China Iron and Steel Research Institute, believes that "offshore wind turbines are located in harsh environments and require complex anti-corrosion technologies, which need to be partially targeted. Underwater corrosion prevention mainly focuses on reinforced concrete, while underwater corrosion prevention focuses on metal corrosion prevention of wind turbine blades and towers." In order to prevent wind turbines from rusting and malfunctioning, many wind power plant owners had to spend high labor costs to hire people to clean and rust proof the turbines.


In response to the pain points in this industry, Jiangsu Fengyang has developed a wind turbine tower maintenance robot, completely changing the outdated pattern of relying solely on human labor for wind turbine maintenance. The International Energy Network reporter learned that the wind turbine tower maintenance robot is an intelligent device that can be freely lifted and lowered. It crawls up and down on the tower body, drives the work platform, and performs comprehensive cleaning, rust removal, painting and other operations on the outer wall of the wind turbine tower. The platform is equipped with three construction platforms that rotate 120 degrees and are equipped with spray nozzles for noise and paint spraying. The power and speed of the operation are intelligently controlled to achieve unmanned high-altitude operation, improve efficiency, ensure safety, and provide guarantees for the normal maintenance and operation of the wind turbine.


Corrosion of the wind turbine tower is one of the main causes of wind turbine collapse accidents. To ensure the safe operation of wind turbines, Jiangsu Fengyang has also launched the use of "wind power maintenance robots" to conduct comprehensive safety inspections on towers and blades, in order to prevent problems before they occur. The corresponding research and development of wind power to achieve anti-corrosion maintenance of tower without stopping operation is also planned.


It is reported that the company, in collaboration with Beijing JINJIU ZHUOER Machinery Equipment Manufacturing Co., Ltd., has developed an environmentally friendly rust removal and sandblasting machine specifically for wind tower maintenance. This product is designed to remove harmful paint, rust, oxygen skin and other attachments from special workpieces of wind turbine towers, ensuring that the sandblasting site is dust-free, pollution-free and non-toxic, achieving sand and dust separation, reusing sand particles, and centralized recycling and disposal of waste. The design lift of the rust removal and sandblasting machine can meet the operation at a height of 100 meters outdoors.
